On this ride, Steve and Mal hurtle from Point A to Point B while discussing the boomerang benefits of compassion, inciting their listeners to replace their pique with empathy. Don’t go postal!

Show notes:
Hyperloggia does not appear to be a word (outside of this episode). However, logorrhea IS a word. Merriam Webster defines it as “excessive and often incoherent talkativeness or wordiness,” while Wikipedia proclaims “In psychology, logorrhea or logorrhoea (from Ancient Greek λόγος logos “word” and ῥέω rheo “to flow”) is a communication disorder that causes excessive wordiness and repetitiveness, which can cause incoherency.”
Online articles on the beneficial effects that empathy bestows even on the empath abound. This statement at https://www.pointloma.edu/resources/counseling-psychology/how-empathy-can-change-your-life-career is typical: “empathy for others and self-empathy are not only powerful catalysts for emotional healing but for physical healing as well. Research now shows that empathy can quite literally promote pain relief and robust physical health.”
As to the surfer dude, a blogger named Sahil Bloom posts this at https://www.sahilbloom.com/newsletter/the-surfer-mentality:
“The Surfer Mentality: When a surfer gets up on a wave, they enjoy the present moment, even though they know with certainty that the wave will eventually end. They fully enjoy THIS wave, with the wisdom and awareness that there are always more waves coming.
“5 ideas of applications of this mentality: (1) enjoy your next wave and embrace the present moment, (2) be strategic about your positioning in between waves, (3) pass on more waves rather than jumping at the first one that comes your way, (4) always get in the water and stop sitting on the shore, and (5) roll with the punches that life deals you.”
As Ep. 14 makes clear, the surfer mentality is useful during root canal.
Speaking of surfer dudes, this video captures Steve in surfer (i.e. longboarding) mode, before his longboarding career went on indefinite hiatus: https://youtu.be/8Si6I6_kHuQ

And as this ep implies, TRTR merch is (probably) coming. All we have to do is figure out how to make it available to you, our listener loved and held (for what will no doubt be a modest sum). The What Would Oober Do T-shirt and/or bumper sticker and the Everyone Hates Doing Carpool T-shirt and/or bumper sticker have yet to be designed, but they’re (probably) coming. In any event, here is an advance look at the fine TRTR mug:
